YMCA Youth Parliament
YMCA Manningham Youth Services have partnered with Donvale
Christian College to send six students to this year’s Victorian Youth
Parliament. We are excited to announce that they will be proudly representing the entire Manningham community. The students from Donvale Christian College have hit the ground running and earlier this month they successfully submitted the final version of their bill topic.
The students are set to enter the chambers of Government
house in July to showcase their skills and passion. They will be debating and
advocating for a review of all commercial and public buildings in Victoria with
the view to ensure buildings are accessible to all people, particularly to
those with a disability.
Victoria’s YMCA Youth Parliament is a program designed to
give young Victorians between the ages of 16 – 25 years a chance to be heard at
the highest levels of State Government, on a wide range of issues relevant to
young people's lives. Twenty teams of six participants receive training in public speaking and leadership at residential camps, as they research issues that they’re passionate about.
The YMCA’s belief statement is that we believe in the power
of inspired young people. Come July our Manningham – Donvale team will come
together with 20 other teams from across Victoria where we will witness what
120 inspired young people are capable of.
